High School Burnout: Assessing Causes and Consequences

Title

High School Burnout: Assessing Causes and Consequences

Description

Using literature on school burnout, this study will attempt to measure levels of burnout in adolescent high school students. Creating a stylistically new and unadapted measure of school burnout is imperative to this study to ensure that questions and scenarios originate from an academic perspective and include all aforementioned testable factors for school burnout. This measure will also address guardian involvement as a factor in school burnout by including a guardian form along with student response forms. School environment and teaching styles will be brought into question in terms of their effect on students’ burnout levels. This measure will also consider the impact of COVID-19 and virtual learning on current levels of burnout and attitudes toward school. This pivotal age group will report levels of burnout along with responding to questions about their confidence in their abilities as a student, in order to address the question of whether or not burnout can be present without hindering perceptions of academic success. Considering all of these factors will provide a better understanding of current burnout levels in students and how burnout occurs. Having a valid questionnaire for assessing burnout in adolescents will also allow school psychologists, guidance counselors, high school teachers, coaches, guardians, and all who work with adolescents to better identify those suffering from burnout and those at risk of burnout, and therefore provide them with assistance.
